False Teachers

Jude 1:4 "I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their way into your churches, saying that's God's marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives. The condemnation of such people was recorded long ago, for they have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ."

"Like the apostle John, Jude stressed the importance of knowing what's true about God and His word. This is the only way to recognize false teaching. So how do you know what's true? Study the Word."

v6 "And I remind you of the angels who did not stay within the limits of authority God gave them but left the place where they belonged. God has kept them securely chained in prisons of darkness, waiting for the great day of judgement."

- I am reminded here that although some people may look like "angels" - or a supporter of Jesus and His teachings - they can fall just as easily as some of the heavenly angels did. And these people also will be in prisons of darkness.

v10 "But these people scoff at the things they do not understand. Like unthinking animals, they do whatever their instincts tell them, and so they bring about their own destruction."

"False teachers claimed to possess secret knowledge of God. In reality, we can never fully know everything there is to know about God. But God in his grace has chosen to reveal Himself to us through His Word and through Jesus. Beware of those who claim to have all of the answers and who belittle what they dont understand."

In doing some research I have found that some scholars believe that Jude was around Jesus occassionally, because his brother James was one of the 12 disciples (someone correct me if im wrong). In verse 17 Jude does imply that he is not one of the apostles, but then again, what is the correct definition of apostle? "any of the early followers of Jesus who carried the Christian message into the world." ( http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/apostle )

2 Peter 2:12 is almost the exact same verse as Jude writes in verse 10 (quoted above). This leads us to believe that Peter may have read Jude's writings, which means Jude could have been highly looked upon for his beliefs. Either that, or God laid the same idea on both of their hearts.

"He exhorts the faithful (17-23). They must remember the teaching of the Apostles, by whom they had been warned of the coming of such heretics (17-19). They must maintain the Faith, keep themselves in the love of God, and wait for life everlasting (20-21).
